"Man did not weave the web of life, he is merely a strand in it. Whatever he does to the web, he does to himself." - Chief Seattle Hello, my name is Morgan Caraway and I live in the Asheville area in Western North Carolina. Click the "ideas" tab at the left for some of our visions for a sustainable future. At this point in my life, I see it as my sacred calling to help human beings fulfil the need for non-toxic, truly affordable, sustainable housing. I love natural building. My main specialty is earthbag building but I am also fluent at techniques such as cordwood and bottle wall construction. I am willing to work alone or to help facilitate a building workshop which could help an owner/builder get a good start on contruction of a house with materials being the only out-of-pocket expense. If you would like to hire my services, my email address is on the contact page. Thanks and... Welcome! We can ALL, no matter who we are, make a difference. The smallest changes in our lifestyle or outlook can lessen our burden on the environment dramatically. This isn't a time for hopelessness as it is fully possible, NOW, to live a comfortable, completely sustainable life. The main thing we, as modern human beings, seem to be up against is the idea that we are separate from The Earth. Is this true? How long could you live without the oxygen that trees produce? How long can you make it without drinking water or the food that the soil grows? Our body is only the elements of the planet, arranged in a certain way for a limited amount of time. WE ARE THE EARTH and anything we do against it harms ourselves. If this isn't clear, think about it - are we really independent from the environment? To pollute the air, water or soil is to poison ourselves. To damage the biosphere is to harm the web of life that we are a part of. This isn't a philosophical theory or hollow intellectual belief - it is true. What would money or power mean if the planet can no longer sustain life? Nothing. Our main priority, as living beings, should be to protect that which we depend on for survival - The Earth. Every other consideration should be secondary. The Indigenous Americans and most traditional societies knew this. It is of the upmost importantance that we and our children realize this before it's too late to avoid catastrophe. Though some would disagree, I think there is still time. To visit my new blog, go to: http://a-sustainable-life.blogspot.com/ The ideas page has alot of things we can do to lessen our impact. Most of these, besides saving resources, also save money. The media page has a list of books, movies and more that can help us become more aware of our relationship with the planet and give us knowledge of how to live more lightly. The links page has a bunch of websites that have been helpful to Mary Jane and I in our quest for sustainability. The journal and pictures pages detail some of our experiences in this quest. If you would like, you can contact me through the contact page. Thank You, Morgan. |
